2. Project Overview / Executive Summary

MissionManage the purchase and provision of fiber broadband anywhere in the world
Value (Benefit)

All over the world our members are buying and selling wholesale broadband.
In this project we aim to harmonize the solution and simplify the provision and management of these services, standartizing the data models and APIs associated with the provision of fiber-based broadband access. Our success in here, will expand the scope to other wholesale network interconnection scenarios.

Strategy

The move from copper-based broadband to fiber-based broadband is depicted below:

As the world moves from copper-based access services to fiber-based access services we see many of our members are updating their systems as the roll out FTTC and FTTP (fiber to the - Cabinet or Premises) either because of regulation or delayering of their organization (separating wholesale services from retail services, or separating NetCo from ServeCo) they are increasingly using B2B2X type scenarios.  When we look at the processes and services involved in the provision of fiber-based Broadband we see common APIs used for some or all of the following scenarios:

Address matching

  • TMF673 Geographic Address Management
  • Line characteristics (eligibility checker)
  • TMF679 Product/Offer Qualification

Appointment services

  • TMF646 Appointment Management

Service status checks

  • TMF653 Service Test Management
  • TMF639 Resource Inventory Management

Product ordering

  • TMF622 Product Order Management
  • TMF641 Service Ordering Management
  • TMF637 Product Inventory Management

Members of the team agree to provide an overview of their current solutions including:

    • Eligibility criteria
    • Address checking
    • Technical compatibility
    • Product model
    • Order structure
    • Activation model
  • Share data models for BB products worldwide and see if we can agree a common model with optional extensions
  • Develop a worldwide set of APIs (with relevant Domain Context Specializations payloads – these would be fiber payloads that may have regional/operator variations but ultimately aligned with a global industry standard to simplify adoption) to support fiber provisioning.
  • Publish a set of user guides and instructions on the management of fiber installation.
  • Promote and market the work through a series of blogs, articles, GAF, sessions/demos at DTW, whitepapers, etc.
