Meeting notes
Summary:
The representatives of multiple SDOs shared ongoing activities and key points in AN related works, including:
- TM Forum:
Autonomous Networks Project (ANP) was initiated since May 2019 and has published the Whitepaper, Vision & Roadmap, as well as Business Requirements & Architecture documents, which formulate the baseline of AN concept, framework, AN levels and key capabilities; in addition, multiple catalyst (PoC) projects have been established and marketing events are organized.
TMF believes both the challenges and opportunities of AN are significant, no single company and/or SDO is capable to cover E2E perspectives of AN. The Cross SDO industry level collaboration on the consensus of key concepts and terminologies (e.g. AN definition, framework, autonomous networks levels) and the development of key capabilities/mechanisms/interfaces (e.g. closed-loop, autonomous domain, intent) is essential to the success of AN.
- ETSI:
Multiple groups are relevant to the AN, including ENI, F5G, MEC, NFV, OSM, TC INT AFI and ZSM. Those works are intended to address the different aspects of automation & intelligence of networks & operations domains. Many documents have been published in the context of architecture and key mechanisms, and some of them with use cases and PoCs.
ETSI recognises the need for further coordination and collaboration both internally and externally and has organized an internal coordination activity for Autonomous Networks. ETSI is developing an overall framework to leverage the complementarity of the different ETSI AN activities and is open to further discussion with relevant SDOs and Open source initiatives on the topic of AN.
- 3GPP:
SA5 is responsible for management, orchestration and charging standards for 3GPP networks, which has been engaged in autonomous network relevant topics for LTE network, including Self-Organizing Network (SON) for E-UTRAN standardized since 3GPP Rel-8 (in 2008); in addition, For 5G, Autonomous Network Level
Closed loop communication service assurance, Intent driven management service for mobile networks, Management Data Analytics Service, Self-Organizing Networks (SON) for 5G networks, Network Slicing are being addressed.
3GPP SA5 has already made some progress on autonomous networks and continues to deliver more features to support autonomous networks. 3GPP SA5 is actively involved and developing specifications with full support of network automation and is happy to cooperate with other SDOs on autonomous networks.
Open discussion on collaboration:
The representatives from each SDO recognized the necessity of collaboration to fulfill the E2E perspectives of Autonomous Networks. It is proposed the following plan and next steps:
- Overall plan:
- Start from the consensus and alignment of basic concepts, terminologies, framework, and key perspectives including definition of Autonomous Networks, closed loop, Autonomous Networks Levels, Autonomous domains, Intent driven interaction and open discussions.
- Further deep dive on the development of key technical mechanisms, framework and interfaces, as well as use cases/PoCs and testing and verification mechanisms to support autonomous networks.
- Next steps:
- Set up a “Cross SDO Autonomous Networks Collaboration” email group with the representatives of participating SDOs to kick off the information sharing and open discussion, starting from Item 1 above.
- 2Set up a repository for information sharing and working documents.
- Schedule the discussion workshop on demand (e.g. monthly) to sync up and tackle the open issues.
