Open Innovation Catalyst Awards 

The Open Innovation Catalyst Awards recognize achievements in igniting industry innovation, collaboration, and growth through their proof-of-concepts.

Open Innovation Catalyst teams (i.e. C24.0.xxx) are eligible for these Awards. 


Award Categories

For DTW’24, we plan to have 7 Award categories to be awarded as Open Innovation Catalyst Awards at Digital Transformation World (18-20 June 2024).

To be awarded at DTW'24 Event 

  • Outstanding Catalyst – Business Impact

  • Outstanding Catalyst – Sustainability & Impact on Society (maintaining our ESG focus)

  • Outstanding Catalyst – Showcase

  • Outstanding Use of TM Forum Assets

  • Outstanding Business Growth new 

  • Best Innovation & Future Techco

  • Best New Catalyst for Phase-I only 

  • Excellence in the application of AI & Automation new

Winners will be announced live during a ceremony at Digital Transformation World in Copenhagen on September 21, 2023


Judging Criteria 

For Open Innovation Catalyst Awards, each Category would be judged by set of common ‘General Criteria’ and set of ‘Award Specific Criteria’ corresponding to the respect Award category selected.

General Criteria: Set of 6 parameters common to all award categories above.

  General Judging Criteria

  • Storyline: How clear, engaging & strong is the Catalyst’s storyline, solution & deliverables?

  • Team Collaborations: How well has the participants & champions contributed & collaborated towards catalyst success?

  • TMF Assets: How well has the team used or planning to contribute to TM Forum’s assets, best practices & standards?

  • Proof of concept: How well-developed is the proof-of-concept? (1 = ‘Just an idea’; 10 = ‘Credible working solution’)

  • Industry Value & Potential: How valuable is the Catalyst to the industry in the long term? (1 = ‘Not much/Redundant’; 10 = ‘Potential to revolutionize’)

  • Catalyst Spaces: How descriptive, interactive, informed & well-presented are their Catalyst Spaces?

Award specific criteria: Set of 2 parameters unique to each award category.

Outstanding Catalyst – Business Impact

Awarded to the Catalyst that demonstrates the most compelling business impact & potential.

  • Business Impact: How well does the project team quantify and explain the business impact of their solution?

  • Commercial Viability: To what extent is the catalyst solution relevant, commercially viable & credible to the business?

Outstanding Catalyst – Sustainability & Impact on Society

Awarded to the Catalyst which demonstrates the greatest potential to positively impacts society and contributing towards UN’s Sustainable development goals.  

  • Sustainability: How well does catalyst align with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)? (Scoring –1=Nil; 10=’Highest alignment with multiple SDG goals & well-defined proof points’)

  • Societal Impact: What degree of societal impact is the project likely to have in the next 1 year? (Scoring –1=Nil; 10=’Highest)

Outstanding Catalyst – Showcase

Awarded to the Catalyst which demonstrates that displays the most powerful showcase demonstration.  

  • Demonstration: How well is the demonstration presented to showcase the solution's innovation and commercial viability?

  • Industry Concerns: How well does the demonstration highlight their solution's relevancy to telco industry concerns?

Outstanding Use of TM Forum Assets  

Awarded to the team that shows the most powerful use of TM Forum assets in their Catalyst project and quantify the benefits of using these assets.

  • Use of TMF Assets: How deeply rooted are the team’s solution with TM Forum’s best practices and standards? (Scoring –1=’Nil use’; 10=’Powerful use & testing of assets’)

  • New Thinking: How well has the team tested or developed new thinking / requirements for TM Forum’s best practices & standards?

Outstanding Business Growth (New award category)

Awarded to the Catalyst that demonstrates outstanding new growth potential, beyond building upon traditional connectivity offerings and demonstrates reuse of digital enablers (such as IoT, CaaS (Connectivity as a Service), ZTP (Zero Touch Partnering) and marketplaces).

  • Growth Potential: How well does the Catalyst demonstrate top line revenue growth potential including adjacency / attractiveness of its solution to the telecom industry?

  • Adaptability: How well does the Catalyst hold an ability to stay ahead of the curve to adapt with change in market conditions?

Best Innovation & Future Techco

Awarded to the Catalyst team with the most innovative & futuristic technology solution aimed towards bringing digital transformation to industry.

  • Innovation: How original, innovative & futuristic is the team’s business idea and/or technology solution?

  • Future Impact: How would the Catalyst solution potentially impact the future developments & technologies in industry?

Best New Catalyst For Phase-I/New catalysts only

Awarded to the Phase 1 Catalyst team that demonstrates the most collaborative behavior and the most compelling and innovative solution.

  • Solution: How well has the new Catalyst addressed the key industry challenge & offered most compelling technology solution?

  • Impact on Industry: What level of impact will the Catalyst have on transforming telco industry?

 

Excellence in the application of AI & Automation (New award category)

Awarded to the Catalyst that demonstrates the best use of AI & Automation to drive efficiency & growth.

  • Sustainable Scalability & Impact: How well do the Catalyst demonstrate the AI system or technology that is sustainable and scalable, ensuring long-term viability and impact on the business (either efficiency of new revenue models) and customer experience in the rapidly evolving field of AI.

  • Ethical and responsible use: The AI system or technology should adhere to ethical and responsible principles, such as transparency, fairness, accountability, privacy, and human-centric design.


Judging Process


  • Each Open Innovation Catalyst teams can select maximum up to 3 award categories from above to compete for.

  • Each Catalyst team would require filling in the ‘Awards Submission Form’ (one form per team) for indicating their choices & for submitting proof points against the above Judging criteria.

  • Each team will be allocated 3 Judges to assess & score based on:-

      • Awards Submission forms (To be filled in by teams - PRIOR to the event)

      • Catalyst Spaces/URL/Resources shared on their spaces etc. (Kindly ensure to keep it updated with the latest information)

      • Onsite team interactions/demos at their booths (at the DTW Event in Copenhagen)

  • Scoring will be based on above-mentioned criteria questions:-

    • General           (6 criteria) - weightage 40% (tbc)

    • Award specific (2 criteria) - weightage 60% (tbc)

  • Catalyst Awards webinars would also be held by TM Forum staff in July-August, to share about this is detail. 

  • Catalyst team would require submitting their Awards' submission forms for Judges to review. Template & details to be shared in due course.

  • Each Catalyst team will be allocated a common Username & Password to access the Awards portal and for submitting their Awards Submission Forms.

  • Judges will visit the booths of allocated teams primarily on Day 1 (19th Sept) & on first half of Day 2 (20th Sept till 1pm) to interact & score the teams.

  • Judging Time Blocks or Slots will be allocated to teams. Although we encourage Judges to visit in the set time blocks, in case of any conflicts with their schedules Judges may visit the team as per their own convenience.

  • Teams are advised to ensure that their booth is manned during that all time blocks.
